Any requirements marked with * will be requested within 2 years once your license is granted, the main test to ensure your license is granted is the Topographical Test.

You will need to fill in your details aswell as provide a email address. We advise you to complete your application online rather than paper, as it means you can obtain your license a lot quicker.

After you “Submit” and “Finish” the registration form. Check your email, as TFL will want you to click on the link to verify your email, if you don’t see the email ensure that you check your junk mail.

Your account has now been activated, and it will now ask you to ‘’Sign In’’ again and require you to setup a security question.

You will be shown 2 options, you can either “Apply for Driver Licence Online” or “Request Driver Licence Application Pack”.

We recommend applying online to avoid delays.

On pressing “Apply for Driver Licence Online” you will need to scroll down and choose what licence you are applying for, select “Private Hire” from the drop-down menu and then click “Submit”.

This is where you now have to complete all the necessary checks before getting your license. You will have to upload your Medical Check (TPH/04 Form), DBS Check, pay your application fee of £310 and then wait for them to contact you regarding booking your Topographical Test.

Application Process

Cost: £80 Approx (This depends on how much your GP charges for it)

The application process does not let you move onto the next step until this has been uploaded.

Post Office

Important Information:
When you get to this stage, TFL will instruct you on how to apply for a DBS check with their authorised partner.

Aslong as you input the correct details and provide any proofs that they require this process is done fairly quickly.

Once your DBS check is completed, you will have to go to the Post Officet to pay for your application, where at this point the Post Office will double check your ID documents and submit your applicatin and payment on your behalf.

This will all clearly be explained as you go through the process (just contact us if you require any help).

Cost: £310 Total

(Will show as 2 separate fees: License Application Fee – £124, Grant of License Fee £186, which totals as £310)

Where to pay:

Important Information:
You will be prompted to make this payment once your Medical Check and DBS check is completed. Once you pay this fee, you will have to wait to hear back from TFL so they can tell you to book your Topographical test.

Cost: £36 (1 re-sit allowed and will cost £16)

Where to pay: You will pay this at time of booking or at the test centre

Important Information:
You can only book your Topographical Skills Test after TfL has processed your application and invited you to book the test, which takes about 2-4 weeks.

The topographical test can only be carried out at TFL test centres which are located at Baker Street or West Kensington (TFL no longer allows the test to take place at private centres).

You will now have your PCO License and can start working.

Important Information:

By March 2023, you will be required to take SERU and English Speaking/Listening Test. After this date we expect that TFL will make people take all 3 tests before granting licenses.
